ALABAMA

Alabama Whitetail Deer Hunting

White-tailed deer are the most popular game in Alabama. Hunters can expect 300,000 deer annually, and whitetail hunters put in over 4 million man-days annually. Many hunters prefer to hunt the “rut,” or the 14–20-day breeding period. In Alabama, the rut is from November 10-February 8. The rut happens earlier in northern areas of the state.

Season Dates

  • The 2026-2027 whitetail deer hunting season in Alabama is as follows:
  • Archery-Stalk Hunting: October 15, 2026– February 10, 2027
  • Gun Deer Hunting: November 21, 2026- February 10, 2027

Alabama Wild Turkey Hunting

The Eastern Wild Turkey ranks as Alabama’s second most popular game species, attracting around 500,000 hunter days each year. The state offers one of the longest spring turkey hunting seasons in the U.S., lasting between 4 and 6 weeks. While there is also a fall turkey hunting season in select counties, hunters are limited to harvesting a total of five turkeys across both the spring and fall seasons, with no more than one bird per day. Decoys are permitted only during the spring season, and the use of mechanical turkey decoys is prohibited.

Season Dates

  • The 2026 wild turkey hunting season in Alabama varies by zone and county, but generally runs from March 25 to May 8:
  • Youth Season: March 21-22, 2026
  • Zones 1 and 3: March 25–May 8

Wild Hog Hunting

Feral hogs are an invasive and destructive species found throughout Alabama, as they are in many states across the country. Hunting is a primary method used to manage their population. In Alabama, there are no closed seasons or bag limits for feral hog hunting, allowing hunters to pursue them year-round. Areas with abundant acorns or agricultural crops provide prime locations for stalking hogs. On private land, hunters can hunt hogs every day of the year. However, in Wildlife Management Areas, hunters must have a valid hunting license, a management area permit, and a management area license to hunt feral hogs.

Season Dates

  • There is no closed season for hunting feral hogs in Alabama in 2026, meaning hunters can hunt them year-round on private land:
  • When to hunt: Hunters can hunt feral hogs at any time of day, any day of the year on private land.
  • Bag limits: There are no bag limits for feral hogs.
  • Weapons: Hunters can use any weapon legal for the type of hunt.
  • Night hunting: Hunters with a license can hunt feral hogs at night.
  • Baiting: Hunters can bait feral hogs with a special privilege license, but only on private land.

FLORIDA

Osceola Turkey Hunting

Florida's wild hog population has exploded over the years, making them one of the most prevalent game species in the state. With few natural predators and a fast reproduction rate, wild hogs are abundant and considered an invasive species, causing extensive damage to Florida's ecosystems and agricultural areas. This makes hunting them not only an exciting challenge but also a valuable contribution to local wildlife management.
